What Was the Problem?

Most social media platforms emphasize fleeting content, but they fail to capture the continuity of people’s lives. Daily posts get lost in the noise, leaving no meaningful way to revisit and reflect on moments as a cohesive story

The Challenge

Designing an app that felt simple and fun for quick daily snippets, yet powerful enough to weave them into narrative reels over weeks or months. The platform also needed to encourage collaboration, keep users safe, and scale for future social features—all while competing in a crowded social media space

The Solution

Remerge was designed as a “living mosaic of life,” where short video clips are effortlessly captured, organized, and transformed into complete reels. The solution included:

An intuitive flow for recording 1–10 second videos.

Collaborative group feeds where friends contribute clips.

Smart scheduling and auto-compilation to create meaningful stories over time.

Profile, privacy, and reporting features to ensure safety and control.

Together, these features turn fragmented moments into narratives that users can relive and share, redefining digital storytelling

Branding & Style

The client’s vision for Reelvo’s identity centered on a sharp, strong “R” that could function seamlessly as both the logo and the app icon, ensuring brand consistency across platforms without the need for variations. To achieve this, I created a series of initial sketches exploring bold and minimalistic forms, narrowing them down to four distinct options. After review, we quickly refined the chosen direction through three short iterations, arriving at the final logo.

The chosen purple palette, selected by the client, brought energy and uniqueness to the brand while maintaining a sense of sophistication. Paired with a clean, minimalist, and modern UI layout, inspired by familiar platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, the branding helped bring Reelvo to life—balancing freshness, approachability, and storytelling power.

Discovery & Alignment

Before diving into design, I invested time in a structured discovery process to ensure clarity and alignment. The client needed guidance to fully map out the scope of their idea, so I facilitated detailed workshops and built a FigJam board that broke down user flows, feature dependencies, and potential edge cases. This visual, collaborative approach not only helped the client see the big picture of their product, but also gave us a shared foundation to move forward with confidence — reducing ambiguity, preventing loose ends, and setting the stage for a smoother design and development journey.

Now captures the moment — the reel keeps it alive

When users log in, they’re welcomed by the Now feed — a space where friends share short video snippets that are visible for 24 hours. This creates a sense of immediacy and real-time connection, similar to Instagram Stories. Unlike Stories, however, these clips don’t vanish completely: once their 24 hours in the feed expire, they’re preserved as part of a larger reel, tied to a specific moment or occasion in the user’s life. This way, the feature balances ephemeral sharing with lasting storytelling.

From moments to memories — all your reels in one place

Accessible from the bottom navigation bar, the Reels section is where users can revisit and organize the stories of their lives. It’s divided into two tabs:

Active Reels: Groups tied to ongoing moments, either personal or shared with friends, where new clips can still be added.

Completed Reels: Groups that have ended, automatically compiled into finalized reels. These reels showcase the entire journey of an event — from quick snippets to the full story — turning everyday experiences into lasting memories.

From setup to sharing — creating a reel is effortless and social

The reel creation flow was designed to be simple, collaborative, and flexible, guiding users step by step through the process of turning moments into stories.

Choose Style – Users start by deciding between a solo reel to capture their own story, or a group reel to collaborate with up to four friends

Invite Friends – The interface makes it easy to search, select, and invite collaborators. Each participant can add one clip per day, reinforcing fairness and encouraging ongoing contributions

Set Name & Privacy – A clear, minimalist screen lets users title their reel and decide on privacy settings

Set Duration – Users define how long the reel will run (e.g., 3 days, 7 days), with the option to make it recurring, so the experience automatically refreshes for ongoing traditions or events.

This flow ensures that creating a reel feels lightweight and social, while still giving users meaningful control over collaboration, privacy, and timing. The combination of clean layouts, clear copy, and guided steps reduces friction, empowering users to focus on capturing authentic moments with friends.

Developer Handoff Documentation

To bridge design and development, I prepared a detailed handoff documentation that explained every aspect of the app. It included annotated screens, usage guidelines for main components, interaction flows, and notes on edge cases. This ensured that developers had clear references, reducing ambiguity and speeding up implementation while keeping the final product aligned with the original design vision.

Conclusion

This project marked my first role as a Senior Product Designer at Chop Dawg, and it was both a challenge and a milestone. From branding and feature definition to user flows and detailed UI, I was able to shape Reelvo into a platform that feels clean, modern, and deeply social. Beyond designing screens, I learned how to balance client vision with user needs, collaborate across disciplines, and deliver a product that not only looks great but also tells stories in a new way. This case reflects my growth into a leadership position — driving design decisions, iterating quickly, and ensuring every detail supported the larger experience.
